Xtra Time Web Desk: There were contrasting scenes at two different events featuring FIFA World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s two-day visit to Kolkata. While there was chaos and pandemonium all around at the event in Milan Mela, few hours later at the Mohun Bagan ground it was a more organized event, which was co-ordinated by both Mohun Bagan club and Kolkata Police.
Excitement reverberated through the streets leading up to the Mohun Bagan tent as the renowned goalkeeper arrived amidst a wave of jubilation. The atmosphere was electric as he took part in various activities, such as unveiling the Pele-Maradona-Sobers gate and officially inaugurating the Kolkata Police Friendship Cup 2023.

The program experienced a slight delay due to the overwhelming number of passionate green and maroon fans who had gathered to welcome the FIFA World Cup-winning goalkeeper. As soon as Emiliano stepped out of his car, he promptly inaugurated the Pele-Maradona-Sobers gate. Subsequently, he was escorted to the Mohun Bagan Club tent, where he engaged with club officials. In a gesture of honor, Emiliano received a Life Membership card, a Green and Maroon uttariya, and the club jersey. In return, he presented Mohun Bagan club with his autographed jersey.
After exploring the dressing room, club tent, and lawn, Emiliano made a grand entrance onto the field, greeted by thunderous cheers from the packed stands. Seated in an open jeep, he embarked on a round of the ground, thrilling the crowd. The Argentine goalkeeper delighted fans by tossing footballs into the stands, further igniting their passion.
Both Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Goyal, and Mohun Bagan Club General Secretary, Debasish Datta, felicitated Emiliano for his accomplishments. Moreover, Emiliano had the honor of officially commencing the Kolkata Friendship Cup, marking another significant moment in the event.
