Internet Desk: A complete cricket stand will be named after Ex-Cricket Board and ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya soon. Dalmiya was also the CAB President for a long period. Sourav Ganguly lead CAB earlier appealed to the Indian army who holds rights of Eden gardens for naming the different stands after the renowned contributors to Bengal Cricket. Finally a green signal has come from the army and it has been decided that five stands will be named at the Eden Gardens. The four other people other than Jagmohan Dalmiya are Pankaj Roy, Bishwanath Dutta, N.Ghosh, and J.C.Mukherjee. CAB President Sourav Ganguly said,”It took six months to get the army’s nod, the criteria were the person had to be a CAB President, Board President or India Captain. As I am presently the President so I have refrained from naming a stand on my name. The working committee will decide the rest soon.”

After the Flood Light failure during the World T-20 between New Zealanf and Bangladesh last year on 26 March this time CAB doesn’t want to leave any stone upturned and special security of all the flood-light towers has been made. It has been decided that all four towers will be manned by Kolkata Police Officials along with private security guards deployed by CAB during the ODI match between India and England on 22nd January. All generator rooms will be guarded by Kolkata Police and CAB security guards and engineers have been properly briefed to when switch on the lights during change over.

The iconic Eden Gardens stadium was embarrassed last year due to a recurrence of a blackout when one of the four flood light towers went off, delaying the ICC World Twenty20 Super 10 match between New Zealand and Bangladesh by 15 minutes. Just after Grant Elliott bowled the 11th over with Bangladesh reeling at 45/6 in their chase of 146, the High Court end towers went off, bringing back the memories of India-Sri Lanka ODI match way back on December 24, 2009. With bad light the players left the field as it took about 15 minutes to restore the proceedings. Incidentally, this is the same tower which had tripped on previous occasions. The India-Sri Lanka match in the ODI series was held up for 23 minutes because of power failure in the same tower. In another incident during an IPL 2008 match of Deccan Chargers versus Kolkata Kinght Riders the play had to be stopped for 25 minutes. What later followed was a blame game between the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation. Blackouts is a regular phenomenon at the gigantic football venue of Salt lake Stadium with the most embarrassing being the blackout during an India vs Japan pre-World cup match in 2005.
Sourav Ganguly lead CAB wants to avoid any controversy and wants to conduct the match smoothly. Sourav also said, “The pitch is going to be batting friendly and will have pace on it which will allow the ball to come to the bat. We are expecting a full house on Sunday.”
