Xtra Time Web Desk: A first half strike from Guido Rodriguez saw Argentina prevail over arch rivals Uruguay by a 1-0 margin in an entertaining Copa America 2021 Group B clash at Brasilia on Friday night. The win took Argentina on top of the group pushing behind Peru who is also on same 4 points.

Argentina dominated the proceedings as they created as many as three chances in the first 12 minutes. Lionel Messi took a deft left footer from outside the box in the 6th minute but it was blocked by Uruguyan goalkeeper. It was the Bracelona legend who produced an inch perfect cross from the left to find Guido Rodriguez who made no mistake in heading home to give Albiceste the lead in the 13th minute. It was also the first international strike for Rodriguez.

There was a controversial incident when Edinson Cavani was tripped inside the box by Rodriguez but the referee did not seemed too interested. The Uruguyan players did complain especially Luis Suarez was seen having an argument with the match officials as the players left for the breather.

If the first half belonged to Argentina, their opponents came back strongly in the second half. But lack of finishing saw the Uruguyans rue missed opportunities.

Messi was named the Man of the Match for the second consecutive match after his show against Chile where he scored a brilliant goal from freekick. Unfortunately the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
