Internet Desk: A bizarre incident that took place recently during a club cricket match between Moonee Valley CC and Strathmore Heights CC at Melbourne, left the cricket fraternity bemused. Jatinder Singh of Moonee Valley found his middle stumps up-rooted but the bails remained intact, which left everyone in the middle including the umpires surprised. After some deliberation, the umpire did give their verdict: ‘out’.

The players of both teams were bemused to see that the bails were dislodged in spite of the stump being up-rooted. Players from both the teams shared different opinion but it was the umpires who took a correct decision.

‘We had no idea what the actual ruling on it was, but we all admired it for a few minutes’, Moonee Valley captain Michael Ozbun told The Leader.

The teams decided among themselves that Singh was out, with the umpires unable to make a ruling. According to Law 28 of the MCC, it clearly states: ‘The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground.’
