Prime Minister of Narendra Modi was felicitating the nation’s legendary football captains for their achievements in Blue jersey. The presenter called up the name of Bengal’s very own Bhaskar Ganguly who captained India in the 1982 Asiad. But the crowd saw a shocking moment after that. In his place Maghan Singh went on to meet the Prime Minister to receive the honour and Bhaskar was seen standing in the crowd.
On being asked about the matter Bhaskar told www.xtratime.in that,” The presenter called my name but in the mean time I saw that Mohan Singh is going to meet the Prime Minister. I couldn’t ask him to stop on that moment.”
Soccer legend Badru Banerjee too was late to reach the place due to heavy traffic jam. Later during the first half of the match Prime Minister Narendra Modi met both of them and felicitated them for their achievements in Blue jersey. An emotional moment occurred when Chuni Goswami came to receive the award from Modi. He was in a wheel-chair and both Bhaichung Bhutia and IM Vijayan took him to the Prime Minister to receive the honour.
