Afghanistan Stun West Indies by 6 Runs to Script a Historic Win

Internet Desk: Minnows Afghanistan created the biggest upset of the ICC World T20 2016 as they stunned West Indies by 6 runs in Nagpur on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 124, West Indies could manage only 117 for 8. Despite this defeat, West Indies topped their group and will face India or Australia in the semifinals.England will face New Zealand in the other semifinal.

Put into bat, Afghanistan posted a moderate total of 123/7 with Najibullah Zadran scoring the bulk of runs with 48 runs.

For West Indies, Samuel Badree (3 for 14) and Andre Russell (2 for 23) were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply West Indies were restricted to 117/8 from their stipulated 20 overs. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan picked two wickets each for the Afghans.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss and elected to bowl against Afghanistan in their last Super 10 Group 1 match of the ICC World Twenty20 in Nagpur on Sunday.

Swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle was rested by West Indies for this dead rubber.
