AFC Cup set to be cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic

XtraTime Web Desk: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) may cancel the AFC Cup 2020 due to the increase of deadly COVID-19 pandemic in the countries who are set to host the matches of the competition.

Though earlier the appex body gave an indication that the marquee tournaments like AFC Champions League, AFC Cup, AFC U16 and U19 Championships will be played in only one venue and they will follow the strict schedule but as off now due to COVID-19 outbreak they are thinking of scrapping all the tournaments in this season.

AFC has already taken a decision that they will conduct the AFC U16 Championship in 2021 which was scheduled to be played this year and now the committee which hosts all these competitions is thinking of calling off the AFC Cup 2020.

Beside this the AFC have already made an announcement about postponing the remaining matches of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers to 2021.

Now the appex body is keeping their close look on the COVID situation of all the host countries of AFC Cup 2020 and if the situation doesn’t get better, then they will call of this year’s AFC Cup.
