ACL 2021: Persepolis hands FC GOA their first defeat in AFC Champions League

Iranian club Persepolis hander Indian club FC GOA their first ever defeat in their debut season at AFC Champions League 2021 at Fatodra stadium on Tuesday. Finally Dhiraj was beaten not once but twice in a game as the Iranian club came from behind to maintain their all win record in this season.



Incidentally FC Goa held AL-Rayyan and AL-Wahda to goalless draws to earn 2 points in as many encounters. Today Edu Bedia and FC Goa did make history by scoring first and going ahead in the match. Goan franchise club is the first club from India to score a AFC Champions League (ACL) goal. In the 14 th minute of the match Goa took the lead courtesy Edu Bedia goal from Brandon Fernandes free kick. But the joy didn’t last too long.


In the 18 th minute Persepolis equalised through penalty goal scored by Torabi after Alkasir is brought down inside the box. In the 24 th minute Persepolis takes the lead. Captain Jalal Hosseini heads the ball in, from a Torabi cross, to put his side 2-1 in front. Both teams went to break with a 2-1 scoreline. In the 66th minute Goa’s chances of making a comeback dealt a body blow as Edu Bedia came off the pitch owing to injury. Seriton lead Goa for the rest of the game and he is replaced by Redeem Tlang in the middle.
Edu Bedia was down after a clash with one of the Persepolis players. This incident almost took out all the attacking intent from Goa as they had to settle for a loss with a scoreline of 2-1.
