AB de Villiers reveals the ‘personal reason’ why Virat Kohli was not available for the first two tests against England

Xtra Time Web Desk: AB de Villiers, former South Africa captain and ex-teammate of Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore, has disclosed the reason why Virat Kohli has stayed away from the first two test matches of the ongoing test series against England. According to de Villiers, during a live session on his YouTube channel revealed that Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child,

The revelation sheds light on Kohli’s decision to skip the first two tests due to personal reasons.

“All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well,” AB de Villiers said in his YouTube show on Saturday.

The former Proteas batter also revealed the conversation he had with Kohli in text messages.

“Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you (fans) a little bit of love,” said AB de Villiers.

“So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?’. He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well,” De Villiers revealed

“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that,” he added.

It is not clear yet whether Virat will make himself available for the third test against England starting in Rajkot from February 23.
