The Red and Golds will look to shrug off the misfortune after failing to win their last two matches in I League against Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong. Coach Trevor Morgan would look to get back to winning ways as he cannot afford to lose any more points. The Red and Golds currently top the league table with 21 points from 9 matches. While arch rivals Mohun Bagan has 18 points from 8 matches. But East Bengal has a better goal difference than the Mariners. The upcoming three matches is going to be very important for East Bengal as they play Aizawl FC (Feb 20), Bengaluru FC (Feb 25) & Shillong Lajong (Mar 04). The result from these matches will be crucial for the outcome of I League. Sensing the importance of the match against Aizawl, the Red and Gold footballers have reached Aizawl today morning i.e., 72 hours ahead of the tie. The club is paying the expenses for an extra couple of days stay in Mizoram. The players had a gym session after checking in at the hotel in Aizawl. Coach Trevor Morgan wanted to train his players, but had to change his mind as the local organisers could not provide them a practice ground. Manager Manish Banerjee had to rush to the local P.S with his foreign players. It is part of the regulation that is followed whenever a foreigner travels with a team. Coach Trevor Morgan is aware of the stiff competition that he expects from the North East side. According to the gaffer, “They are a good side. The boys remember they could not get past them in the opening encounter.” Meanwhile Wedson Plaza has promised the Red and Gold supporters that his team will bounce back to winning ways in the Aizawl match. In a facebook message the current heartthrob of East Bengal fans posted, “Not happy with the current performance. We will bounce back in the upcoming matches.” On being asked whether he will be going all-out for a win, Morgan said, “I cannot predict the result. But, the boys are all geared up to face Aizawl. We will definitely try and go for full points.” East Bengal footballers will have a training session at a local ground tomorrow. The squad has 20 players, with surprise omission being Jackichand Singh
