XtraTime Web Desk: England has named their squad for the second test match against West Indies starting from July 16 at Old Trafford. Sam Curran is added to the squad alongside Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson who gets his first call up to the senior squad. Captain Joe Root returned to the squad, while Joe Denly misses out. James Anderson and Mark Wood are both rested.

Root has backed his teammate Jos Buttler to transfer his white-ball form into the longer format, despite a lean run with the bat. The wicketkeeper batsman averages over 40 in ODIs while his average in test cricket is a poor 21.38. Butler has managed to score just one fifty in his last 21 innings.

Talking about Butler, Root said, "I know we are in a results business and are judged on performances, but in the first innings I think Jos played technically as well as he has for a long time.

He added, "I think his game is in a good place and it's only a matter of time before we see some of those special innings and performances that we have seen in white-ball cricket transfer across.

"He is a big part of our group. He is a great thinker about the game, a big senior player in the dressing room across the formats and I feel he is not far away from grabbing Test cricket and really running with it. I have seen big strides with him off the field in terms of his technical game.
"You just want him to find that balance and mindset that he can have in white-ball cricket and add it to what is definitely a technique and game that can thrive in Test cricket," said Root.
