Image Source: twitter[/caption] Kolkata: Two-time FIFA U17 World Cup champions Mexico has arrived at the City of Joy last night to take part in the FIFA U17 World Cup 2017, which will start from October 6. According to their coach Mario Arteaga his team is fully ready to make new history when they will face their first opponent Iraq in their opening game on Sunday. Mexico is the only side in Group F who had won the prestigious title twice in 2005 and 2011. The other three teams in the group England, Chile and Iraq haven’t bagged the title till now. “Whatever happened is history. We are here to make new history and we have capabilities to achieve success here. We can go the distance,” Arteaga told reporters after the team’s first practice session at the SAI complex here. “We can’t consider any team easy. All teams have their own style and pedigree like Brazil has their own, Germany has their own. So we cannot take any team lightly,” the coach said when asked to pick an opponent he is wary of. They have been training in Spain for the tournament. “I have been working for the last 20 months since 2016 (with the team). This will be a different experience so let's see,” Arteaga said. Chile is facing some problems with the hot and humid weather conditions in Kolkata but according to Arteaga his team haven’t faced this problem till now. “They (the boys) have been practicing for past few months. We have adapted to the weather and it is not a problem for us. “We have played in so many grounds around the world so this is not a problem for us,” he said. On their first opponents Iraq, Arteaga said:”Iraq have changed their players so many times. We cannot take any rival easily. Anything can happen in a football game. We have played with them a few times before.” The Mexican U17 team have got four new players after winning the CONCAFE U17 Championship which helped them to qualify for the U17 World Cup. “One is a goalkeeper. We are working closely with them. We have a lot of emotion we have a lot of emotion attached to the tournament,” the coach signed off. Mexico has been regarded as one of the most consistant teams of the U17 World Cup. They won the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time in Peru back in 2005 and achived the same feat on their home soil seven years later. They were the second best team of the tournament in 2013 where they lost to Nigeria by 0-3. The same team again eliminated them in the semi-finals in Chile back in 2015. With no Nigeria this time, the seven-time CONCACAF champions will be one of the favourites as it remains to be seen how the Arteaga’s boys cope with the unfamiliar Indian conditions.
