Uruguay Dressing Room in Turmoil After World Cup Exit: Players Reportedly Clash with Marcelo Bielsa Over Tactics and Training

XtraTime Web Desk: Uruguay's World Cup campaign may have ended, but the turmoil inside the national team appears far from over. Reports from several Uruguayan media outlets suggest that serious tensions erupted within the squad ahead of their crucial World Cup clash against Spain, with players openly challenging head coach Marcelo Bielsa's methods and tactical approach.

According to the reports, several senior and influential members of the squad held a direct meeting with Bielsa before the decisive match. During the discussion, the players reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction with both the team's demanding training regime and the game plan prepared for Spain.

The initiative was reportedly led by Uruguay stars Federico Valverde and Rodrigo Bentancur, with goalkeeper Sergio Rochet and midfielder Manuel Ugarte also attending the meeting.

The players are said to have complained that Bielsa's intense daily training sessions were taking a physical toll on the squad. They argued that the excessive workload was negatively affecting performances on the pitch while also increasing the risk of injuries.

The biggest point of disagreement, however, centered around Uruguay's tactical approach against Spain. Bielsa reportedly wanted his team to adopt an aggressive, high-pressing style from the opening whistle in an attempt to put Spain under immediate pressure.

The players, however, believed such an attacking strategy would leave significant defensive gaps, something Spain's quality could easily exploit. Instead, they reportedly urged the coach to adopt a more balanced and cautious approach.

Sources claim the coaching staff did not take the players' concerns positively. Bielsa has long been known for his unwavering commitment to his football philosophy, making the dressing-room disagreement even more significant.

This is not the first time Bielsa's coaching methods have come under scrutiny. Since taking charge of Uruguay, several prominent figures in the country's football community have publicly criticized his management style.

Former Uruguay goalkeeping coach Carlos Nicola, who left the national team following disagreements with Bielsa, previously claimed that the Argentine coach's behavior could be "humiliating" and, at times, even "violent."

Former Uruguay striker Sebastián Abreu also questioned Bielsa's approach, saying: "There is no doubt about Bielsa's coaching ability. But imposing your philosophy without considering the culture and reality of a country is not the right approach."

Earlier controversies involving Luis Suárez and Bielsa, along with the decision to leave Nahitan Nández out of Uruguay's World Cup squad, had already created unrest within the camp.

Speaking on Nández's omission, defender José María Giménez had said: "I was genuinely surprised. Statistically, Nández was one of the players with the most minutes for the national team. Whenever he was fit, he was always selected."

With Uruguay ultimately crashing out of the World Cup, reports suggest that the internal divisions could now intensify further, raising fresh questions about Bielsa's future and the harmony within the national team.
