XtraTime Newsdesk: Lamine Yamal, Spain's teenage sensation, has already shifted his attention to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final after helping La Roja overcome France 2-0 in the semi-finals, announcing on social media that the team is prepared for the title match in New York.
After Spain secured their place in their second ever Fifa World Cup final, Yamal shared pictures of the match on his Instagram account with the caption, "nuevayol vamos por ti," which translates to, "New York, we're coming for you."
The 19-year-old was one of two youths to start for La Roja at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and he was instrumental in the team's triumph. It was the first occasion in FIFA World Cup history when two teenagers started for the same team in the semifinals.
Spain produced a disciplined performance to defeat France and reach the World Cup final for the first time since winning the title in 2010.
Yamal had a big influence in the first half, skilfully stealing possession from Lucas Digne before being pulled down inside the penalty area. Mikel Oyarzabal scored the following spot-kick in the 22nd minute, giving Spain the lead.
France failed to recover as Spain dominated possession. After the break, Pedro Porro connected with Dani Olmo before calmly scoring past Mike Maignan to double La Roja's lead and put Didier Deschamps' side out of the game.
Yamal believed he had added a third goal seconds later, but his attempt was ruled off for a little offside. France threatened momentarily via Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, but Spain's disciplined defence held fast, recording its sixth clean sheet in seven tournament games.
The victory propels Spain into just its second World Cup final, capping a 16-year absence on football's greatest stage following their success in South Africa.
Spain will now travel to New York/New Jersey(as stated above)for the Final to face the winners of the Argentina/England semi-final.
