Belgium Salvage Crucial Point Against Resurgent Egypt

Belgium managed to rescue a valuable point with a 1-1 draw against an inspired Egypt side, thanks largely to the impact of substitute Romelu Lukaku. The striker's presence troubled the Egyptian defense, eventually forcing defender Mohamed Hany into an own goal that brought Belgium level.

The much-anticipated duel between Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne ended without a clear winner. However, Salah marked his 34th birthday by helping his country secure a point. Egypt, appearing in their fourth FIFA World Cup, remain without a victory in the tournament's history. Despite coming agonizingly close on Monday, they were unable to hold on for a memorable win.

Egypt started the match brightly, producing some impressive attacking football and repeatedly putting Belgium's defense under pressure. Their positive approach paid off when Emam Ashour opened the scoring with a superb strike, giving the African side a deserved lead.

Belgium looked far more threatening after the introduction of Lukaku in the second half. The powerful forward immediately caused problems for Egypt's backline, and his relentless pressure eventually led to Mohamed Hany's unfortunate own goal, restoring parity for the Red Devils.

Lukaku nearly completed the turnaround in the closing stages. Substitute Raskin delivered an excellent cross from the right flank, and Lukaku managed to lose his marker before heading toward goal. However, his effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Belgium created another late opportunity from a free-kick. After the ball was recycled into the penalty area, Mechele directed a header toward goal, but Egypt goalkeeper El Shenawy produced a brilliant one-handed save to keep his side level.

While Belgium never truly found their best rhythm, they can take comfort from securing a point despite an underwhelming performance. Egypt, meanwhile, will be left wondering what might have been after coming so close to recording a historic World Cup victory.
