Xtra Taime Web Desk: Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya made headlines on the last day of IPL 2024 Retention on Sunday. Hardik, who was the captain of Gujarat Titans for last two seasons returned to his former franchise Mumbai Indians in all-cash deal. With Hardik returning to MI raises speculation about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. At least for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, Rohit Sharma is likely to remain the captain of Mumbai Indians.

Rohit has been the most successful captains in the history of IPL having led Mumbai Indians to five titles. He has been in the leadership role with MI since 2013. The 36-year-old has brought a very good culture within the MI dressing room and has always backed the players to the hilt. However, Hardik Pandya has stated clearly that he wants a leadership role. That was one of the reasons he went to GT. His homecoming to MI means only one thing he will lead MI in the IPL 2024 season. However, the official announcement for the same is yet to happen.

Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels Mumbai Indians will be looking towards a smooth transition process with regards to captaincy. Hardik, who is currently the captain of Indian T20I side will look to enjoy the same role in Mumbai Indians. It will be interesting if the MI management repose faith in Rohit or go for a change in guard.
