Image Source:Xtra Time[/caption] Internet Desk: Sunday, March 13 will be marked as a unique day for football fans in the country. It was an amazing sight at Barasat Stadium on Sunday when I-League champions Mohun Bagan faced Mumbai FC. Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen, handed an eight-game ban last week for making derogatory comments against the All India Football Federation, will not be in the dugout with his team. Instead, he was in the stands along with some 7000 odd Mariners fans, all wearing his mask. This is somewhat a unique way to protest the rather harsh punishment handed out to their manager in a rather innovative manner, with nearly 7,000 of them at the stands in Barasat wearing masks of Sen’s face. “They kept one Sanjoy Sen out of the match, we will give them (AIFF) 7,000 of them instead,” says Subir Das, a fan involved in these protests. But it is nothing new in Indian club football where fans have expressed their resentment towards the parent body. Xtra Time looks back at a few instances where the fans of different clubs took to an unique protest against parent body – the IFA and AIFF. MB club officials ransack AIFF office – Back in 1995 Mohun Bagan officials led by present club secretary Anjan Mitra ransacked the AIFF office at Netaji Indoor stadium. Mohun Bagan signed 9 players from TFA who were going to pass out that year. But national coach Rustom Akramov did not wanted them to play in club football and wanted them to join the national camp in Bangalore. Federation president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi made an announcement that AIFF is mulling to field a U’19 team in National League. Bagan officials got furious with such a statement as they had formed a junior team that year with these TFA pass outs. Mr Dasmunsi cancelled all the signings ( Dpendu Biswas, Kalyan Chowbey, Shankarlal Chakraborty, Kevin Lewis , Renedy Singh , Lolendra Singh and Susanta were signed by Mohun Bagan )  and that made the Bagan officials furious. Led by Anjan Mitra , they ransacked the AIFF office in Netaji Indoor Stadium. Borkha protest by Md Sporting supporters – Mohammedan Sporting officials chose a unique way to protest the decision of IFA in early 90’s. Led by club secretary Mir Mohammad Omar the fans put on burkha as a mark of protest against IFA secretary Pradyut Kumar Dutta. Earlier a match between East Bengal and Md Sporting got abandoned due to heavy rainfall. But Md. Sporting officials were surprised to see IFA deducting full points from them, resulting in relegation. As a result Md Sporting was relegated to 1st Division Group B. A group of Md. Sporting supporters mostly women wearing burkha protested in front of Pradyut Kumar Dutta. The protests was led by club secretary Mir Mohammad Omar . IFA loan to East Bengal lead to Mohun Bagan protest – Mohun Bagan officials were again in the thick of things as they resorted to a strong protest against the parent body for granting a loan to arch rivals East Bengal. Ranjit Gupta , IFA secretary then granted a loan amount of 15 lakhs to rope in Bhaichung Bhutia who just returned from Bury FC. This made Bagan fans go red . Bagan officials ransacked the office of IFA secretary Ranjit Gupta.
