According to a report by the Times of India, Gill's persistent finger issue has now led to his release from the list of travelling reserves ahead of the Super 8 stage. The final decision on whether he requires surgery will be made by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) medical staff. This development casts doubt on his availability for upcoming fixtures and the long-term management of his injury.

Post T20 World Cup, India’s T20I squad is set to tour Zimbabwe in the first week of July for a five-match T20I series. Historically, India has fielded a second-string squad for tours to Zimbabwe, allowing senior players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah to rest ahead of significant tournaments like the World Test Championship (WTC) and ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

As India gears up for the T20I series in Zimbabwe and beyond, the focus remains on strategic player management and adaptation under new coaching leadership.
