Debasis Sen, Dubai: The Indian team on Sunday cancelled their optional training session ahead of their final group league match against Namibia on Monday at Dubai. The team management decided to call off the training session immediately after New Zealand won their match against Afghanistan by 8 wickets at Sheikh Zayed Stadium. The win by New Zealand meant India will no longer qualify for semi finals even if they win their last group league game against Namibia on Monday.

The Indian team was supposed to hold an optional training session at the ICC cricket academy from local time 6 pm. But the timing was pushed back by half an hour (local time 6:30pm) as the players kept a watch at the proceedings of the Afghanistan versus New Zealand match in their hotel. But as soon as Devon Conway hit the winning runs at Abu Dhabi, the optional practice session was cancelled.

Few days back, all rounder Ravindra Jadeja was asked what will they do if New Zealand win their match against Afghanistan. Jadeja cheekily replied, We will pack our bags and leave,”

As it stands, Monday’s match between India and Namibia will be an inconsequential fixture.
