XtraTime Web Desk: Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri on Monday has vowed to come forward to support the affected poor people of the state of West Bengal due to Cyclone Amphan. In a series of tweets, Sunil shared his feelings for the people who lost their lives and livelihoods.

Sunil tweeted, “Cyclone Amphan may not be in the news anymore, but the trail of devastation it has left is a long one. Have come across so many people who are dreading the thought of rebuilding their lives and livelihoods and some of those conversations have been gut-wrenching.”
In another tweet the talisman said, “Just want to say that it would be great if all of us those who have, can reach out and give to those who have lost. There are a lot of people and organisations doing some good work to help. Make an informed choice and help in whatever way – big or small. It all counts.”

According to Sunil, it is very difficult to give any positive message right now, especially for those who have lost everything. He urged people to come forward and support the people of West Bengal as any help will go a long way.

“I think it’s very sad to see such mass destruction. I tried to call my in-laws and we couldn’t get through for one and half days. But then that botheration was nothing when we saw the actual devastation. It is extremely sad to hear the farmers to say they have nothing to live for as they lost everything in the cyclone,” said Sunil to NDTV.

He added, “We all should definitely come forward and help as much as possible. Let’s help the poorest who have suffered the most.”

The Bengaluru FC captain hopes the City of Joy will soon get back to its feet. He said, “Please stay safe. First it was COVID and now this Amphan cyclone. I am sure it’s not easy especially for those who have lost everything. The entire nation is behind them. We can get back the City of Joy to where it was.”

On May 20, Cyclone Amphan tore through the state of Bengal. An estimated 10 lakhs houses were blown away. Crops were destroyed and livelihood ruined.
