Xtra Time Web Desk: Despite the recent shake-up in Rohit Sharma's captaincy at Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he still remains the "first choice" to lead the Indian cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 next year in the Caribbean and USA. There has been a lot of speculations about Rohit’s future as T20I captain for India after his removal as captain of Mumbai Indians.  It led some to believe that Hardik Pandya might also lead India in next year’s T20 World Cup.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, a BCCI official has confirmed that Rohit Sharma's captaincy for India in all formats is unaffected by the decisions made by Mumbai Indians. Despite not playing a T20 International since November 10, 2022, it has been reiterated that if both Rohit and Hardik are fit and available, Rohit Sharma will lead India in the T20 World Cup next year.

While questions have been raised about Rohit Sharma's future in T20 cricket, particularly in T20 Internationals, it is noted that his performance in the early stages of the IPL 2024 in March-April will be crucial. If Rohit maintains his impressive form, he is expected to continue being a formidable force in the T20 format. The decisions regarding Rohit's T20I career will be influenced by the national selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar and coach Rahul Dravid.
