Xtra Time Web Desk : Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday sealed an enthralling 2 run win over Kolkata Knight Riders to qualify for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2022, in what was a historic game of cricket.

Being put into bat first, the Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 210 on the board without losing a single wicket, courtesy of a fiery 140* by Quinton De Kock accompanied by skipper KL Rahul's 68*, which also set the record for the highest ever opening partnership in the history of the IPL.

Coming in to bat second, the KKR batters in Nitish Rana (42), Shreyas Iyer (50), Sunil Narine (21*) and Rinku Singh (40) put up an extraordinary fight to take the run chase till the last ball, unfortunately falling just 2 runs short of their target.

And after their elimination from the IPL 2022, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer in the post match presentation said, "I'm not feeling sad at all because that was one of the best games of cricket I've ever played to be honest. The performance, the way we showed our character and attitude in this game, it was simply outstanding. I love the way Rinku got us to the end, but unfortunately couldn't time it when two balls were remaining. He was really sad. I was hoping that he could finish the game for us. He could have been the hero. Still, he played a fantastic knock and I'm really happy for him,"

Reflecting on their topsy turvy season, the Knight Riders captain added, "Definitely it was a volatile season for us. We started off pretty great and in between we lost five consecutive games. We did a lot of chopping and changing, depending on the situation we had to make it happen because we had too many niggles and also the form was up and down. So a lot of learnings from there and also we got to know pretty good players like Rinku. He got an opportunity and he showcased that he is a quality player at this level. The vibe has always been positive in the dressing room. No matter what, ups and downs, it's part and parcel of the game and there was no panic button pressed in the dressing room. So that's the best thing that I would say that happened this year."
