Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India's coach, Rahul Dravid, has provided an update on star opener Shubman Gill's status ahead of their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup opener against Australia. Gill has been dealing with an illness leading up to the crucial match in Chennai on Sunday. Dravid revealed on Friday that while Gill is feeling better, he has not been ruled out of the contest.

“The medical team is monitoring on a daily basis. We have 36 hours; we’ll see what decision they take. He’s certainly feeling better today,” Dravid stated.

When pressed about Gill's chances of playing against Australia, Dravid emphasized that the medical team has not ruled him out yet. The decision will be made based on daily assessments. Dravid mentioned, “We’ll keep monitoring him on a day-to-day basis. We’ll see how he feels day after tomorrow.”

If Gill is unable to participate, the team has alternative options. Youngster Ishan Kishan could potentially partner skipper Rohit Sharma at the top of the order, or the experienced KL Rahul is another viable choice. The final decision on Gill's inclusion in the playing XI will be made closer to the match based on his recovery and fitness levels.
