Yet, who would say the league standings weren’t affected by this match’s outcome? All 22 players, both coaches, and the rest of the benches took the match seriously. And, of course, the packed Yuva Bharati crowd had come to witness the Shield presentation.

The first half saw an evenly contested battle. Goa launched quick attacks, while Mohun Bagan remained well-organized in midfield. A celebration had already begun when Manvir's goal was disallowed by the referee after consulting the fourth official. The ball had struck Dimitri Petratos’ hand as he fell. With four defenders, Mohun Bagan dominated the midfield. Greg Stewart and Anirudh Thapa controlled the central play.

In the second half, Ashish Rai was substituted for Dipendu Biswas. Amidst the action, a misunderstanding while attempting a back-header to goalkeeper Ritwik Tewari led to Boris Singh accidentally scoring an own goal.
