Xtra Time Web Desk: Former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan has advised Babar Azam to learn from Virat Kohli’s approach to handling captaincy and performance pressures. Babar has faced criticism for his poor form, notably during the ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024, where Pakistan was eliminated in the group stages. His recent performance in the series against Bangladesh, where he managed only 64 runs from four innings, has also raised concerns.

"There are high expectations from Babar. Players should use social media wisely, but their real answers should come through their performances with the bat and ball. He (Babar) needs to focus on his fitness and work ethic because opportunities like these don't come around often,” said Younis at a press event in Pakistan.

Further speaking ahead, Younis suggested Babar to take a leaf out of Virat Kohli’s book and let go of his captaincy as the India star is on a record-breaking spree following his decision.

"He has achieved a lot at such a young age, but what he needs to know what he wants to achieve in the future. Captaincy is a small thing, performance is what matters. Look at Virat Kohli. He chose to step down from captaincy on his own terms, and now he’s breaking records worldwide. This shows that playing for the country should be the priority. If there’s any energy left, then play for yourself,” he added.

The biggest cause of worry for Pakistan is Babar’s Test form where he hasn’t been able to score a half century in his last 16 innings with a highest score of 39. Pakista will next host England for a three-match Test series beginning from October 7.

All eyes will be once again on Babar as Pakistan search for their first Test victory at home since February 2021.
