Xtra Time Web Desk: Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in all domestic and international cricket under ICC regulations, following a ban by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for an illegal bowling action. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the suspension on Sunday, December 15, noting that it was automatically enforced under ICC guidelines.

The decision stems from Shakib’s failure in an independent assessment at Loughborough University, an ICC-accredited testing centre, after being reported for a suspect action during an English county match in September. As per ICC regulations, a suspension by one national cricket board extends to all ICC-governed competitions globally.

In a statement, the BCB clarified:

“Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions under the ECB's jurisdiction. Consequently, he is also barred from bowling in domestic and international cricket governed by ICC-affiliated boards.”

Shakib is set to undergo reassessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre. If his action is cleared, he will regain eligibility to bowl in international and domestic cricket worldwide.

Despite the suspension, Shakib remains eligible to play as a batter across all formats. Currently active in the Lanka T10 league, he has refrained from bowling in recent games for the Galle Marvels.

This suspension caps a challenging year for Shakib, whose international career has been overshadowed by political involvement as a Member of Parliament. He has retired from Test and T20I cricket and was recently excluded from Bangladesh's ODI series against Afghanistan and the West Indies. His request for a farewell Test in Dhaka was also denied.
