BGT 2024-25: Bumrah's masterclass creates history at Gabba, surpasses Prasanna’s record
Xtra Time Web Desk: Jasprit Bumrah delivered a spectacular performance on Day 3 of the Gabba Test, achieving two major milestones while ending with stunning figures of 6 for 76 against Australia on Monday, December 16. Bumrah has been the standout performer for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leading the bowling attack with exceptional consistency.
On Day 2, Bumrah had waged a lone battle against the Australian batting line-up as Travis Head and Steve Smith slammed centuries. Despite little support from the other Indian bowlers, the pacer managed to pick up a crucial 5-wicket haul, offering India some respite on a challenging day. Adding to his tally on Day 3, Bumrah struck early by dismissing Mitchell Starc, who edged one to Rishabh Pant, completing a remarkable 6-wicket haul.

With this performance, Bumrah etched his name in history books, registering the best-ever bowling figures by an Indian bowler at the Gabba. He surpassed Erapalli Prasanna’s record of 6 for 104 set during the 1968 Test at the same venue.
Bumrah also reached another significant milestone during the innings. Starc’s wicket marked his 50th Test wicket against Australia, achieved in just 10 matches, all of which were played on Australian soil. Bumrah now has Umesh Yadav in his sights, who sits at 53 wickets in 17 Tests against the Aussies. With a stunning bowling average of 17.62, Bumrah is now just two wickets away from breaking Kapil Dev’s record of 51 wickets in Australia.
