The report indicated that although no formal approach has been made to Rhodes regarding the role, his name has been circulating within cricketing circles. Currently, the BCCI is in the process of finalizing India's next head coach, with Rahul Dravid's tenure set to conclude after the T20 World Cup 2024. While no official announcements have been made, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir has emerged as a strong candidate for the head coach position.

According to media reports, Rhodes had previously applied for the fielding coach position in 2019. However, the BCCI chose to retain R Sridhar at that time, following the recommendation of then-head coach Ravi Shastri, who also preferred Bharat Arun as the bowling coach.

In related news, another report has claimed that Gautam Gambhir is poised to become the next head coach of the Indian cricket team after he accepted the BCCI's offer. Gambhir reportedly had certain conditions before agreeing to the role, but the management has given its approval, with an official announcement expected soon.

"We have held talks with Gambhir to become the head coach of the Indian team. He will replace the outgoing Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup," a BCCI source told Dainik Bhaskar.
