Xtra Time Web Desk: Lionel Messi, speaking on his 37th birthday during the Copa América in the United States, reflected on his career and talent, attributing his extraordinary football abilities to divine selection. In an interview with Argentine podcaster Juan Pablo Varsky, Messi expressed his belief that his skills were a gift from God, stating, "It's very clear to me that I was born like this because God chose me. It was a gift he gave me."

Messi emphasized that while he worked hard to maximize his potential, he always had a natural talent for the game. "Although I did many things, I did nothing to become the player that I already was when I was little," he said. He recounted how even as a child, playing football was a passionate hobby, unaware of his unique abilities until he grew older.

The Argentine star began his career at Newell's Old Boys before joining Barcelona's youth team at 13. Despite being celebrated from a young age, Messi only gradually realized his special talent. "From what was being said, I was always different. People came to watch me. I didn't realize it, but I began to understand that as I grew older."

Messi, now the most decorated football player in history with 44 trophies, including eight Ballon d'Or awards, recently helped Inter Miami win the 2023 Leagues Cup. Despite his numerous accolades, Messi acknowledged the lessons learned from defeats, particularly the painful loss to Chile in the 2016 Copa América final, which led him to briefly retire from international duty. "Without a doubt it was [most painful] because it was already the third final defeat in a row," he recalled.

What happened in the past is behind us, now we are living a nice moment," Scaloni said. Argentina's campaign began successfully with a 2-0 victory over Canada.
