Xtra Time Web Desk: 18-year-old Samit Dravid, son of legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid, was ruled out of India Under-19’s first youth Test against Australia on September 30 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Samit had to sit out due to a knee injury he recently sustained, which also caused him to miss the youth one-day series that India won 3-0 against Australia.

Currently undergoing rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s Center of Excellence, Samit is racing against time to be fit for the second youth Test scheduled to begin on October 7 in Chennai. His much-anticipated Under-19 debut has been postponed, and with Samit turning 19 on October 11, the second Test could be his last chance to represent India at the Under-19 level before age restrictions make him ineligible for the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup.

A BCCI official provided updates on Samit’s condition, noting that the team management, under coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, will monitor his recovery. "His MRI was done during the one-day series. We were hopeful he could play the four-day game, but we’ll see how he progresses at the NCA. We’re awaiting the report," a source revealed.

Samit has impressed in domestic age-group cricket, particularly in the Cooch Behar Trophy, where he scored 362 runs and took 16 wickets to help Karnataka secure their maiden title. However, his form in the Maharaja T20 Trophy was less impactful, managing 82 runs in seven innings. Despite this, his potential as an all-rounder remains highly regarded.
