Xtra Time Web Desk: Matt Henry delivered a standout performance on Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, securing his first-ever five-wicket haul against India and fifth overall in Test cricket. His impressive figures of 5/15 played a key role in India’s dramatic collapse, as they were bowled out for just 46 runs, marking their lowest-ever total in a home Test match.

Henry, who completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav in the 32nd over, also celebrated a personal milestone by claiming his 100th Test wicket for New Zealand. Achieving the feat in just his 26th match, Henry became the joint-second fastest New Zealand bowler to reach 100 Test wickets, alongside Neil Wagner. Richard Hadlee remains the fastest, achieving the milestone in 25 Tests. Henry’s 5/15 also ranks as the fourth-best bowling figures by a New Zealand pacer in India.

Despite often being in the shadow of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Neil Wagner, Henry’s perseverance has paid off with this remarkable performance. His contribution was pivotal in India’s downfall, as the visitors wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup.

Henry’s spell began with the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan, brilliantly caught by Devon Conway, leaving India reeling at 10/3. He continued to torment the hosts, eventually dismissing India’s top-scorer, Rishabh Pant, who managed just 20 runs. India’s innings ended abruptly, recording their third-lowest total in Test cricket history. Remarkably, four of India’s top seven batters were dismissed for ducks, a first for the team in a home Test.
