Xtra Time Web Desk: India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana are making their ODI debuts in the series opener against England in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6. However, Virat Kohli will miss the first ODI due to a knee issue sustained last night.

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit, who would have preferred to bowl, emphasized the need for an aggressive start with the ball.

"We wanted to bowl first, but it doesn’t matter much. We need to be aggressive early on and capitalize later. It's a fresh start, and this series presents a great opportunity to perform. Jaiswal and Harshit are making their debuts, and unfortunately, Virat isn't playing due to a knee problem," Rohit said at the toss.

While there was speculation that Varun Chakravarthy, a late addition to the squad, might make his ODI debut, India handed new caps only to Jaiswal and Harshit during the team huddle at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.

Jaiswal has been slotted as the opener, with Shubman Gill positioned in the middle order. The left-hander, a regular in Test cricket, was part of India's T20 World Cup squad but did not get a game. His inclusion in the ODI XI ahead of the Champions Trophy signals India's intent to assess his adaptability in the format.

It remains to be seen whether Shubman Gill, India's vice-captain, will continue to open or drop to No. 3 to accommodate Jaiswal at the top. Meanwhile, Harshit Rana, who made his Test debut in Australia last year, earned his T20I cap as a concussion substitute against England in January. With their ODI debuts, Jaiswal and Harshit join the list of India's emerging all-format players.
