IND vs ENG: Strict rules in place: No personal vehicles for players in Kolkata before mega series
Xtra Time Web Desk: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has implemented travel restrictions for players ahead of the first T20I against England, adhering to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) newly imposed directives. These guidelines, introduced after India’s series loss to Australia, include curtailing family stays during foreign tours, limiting personal shoots during series, and mandating team-oriented travel arrangements.
As reported by PTI, the BCCI has issued a 10-point directive to all state associations hosting matches in the upcoming white-ball series against England. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly confirmed that no special travel arrangements have been made for any player for the Eden Gardens match in Kolkata, aligning with the BCCI’s team-first policy.
"In keeping with the BCCI's 10-point guidelines for players, the Cricket Association of Bengal has not arranged any separate means of conveyance [for individual players]. Only a team bus has been arranged for the Indian team. There won't be any personal vehicles for the cricketers. We have to follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions,” Ganguly said, as quoted by PTI.

Fostering unity and discipline
The BCCI’s new rules aim to enhance team cohesion and instill professionalism. By mandating players to travel with the team for training sessions and matches, the Board seeks to build a unified and disciplined environment. Additionally, the directives emphasize the importance of domestic cricket, requiring players to participate in national tournaments when not on international duty.
Domestic cricket gains priority
The policy’s impact is evident as senior players Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul remain unavailable due to injuries.

“Not a punishment,” clarifies Agarkar
Addressing concerns about the strictness of the guidelines, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar stated, “This is not a punishment for players. All teams have certain rules in place that need to be followed. These directives are part of a broader initiative to ensure discipline and foster professionalism.”
The Indian team will kickstart their T20I series against England under these revised norms, with the Eden Gardens set to host the opening match.
