IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma fires back at reporter over future speculations
Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma snapped at a reporter during the pre-match press conference ahead of India’s 3-match ODI series against England, dismissing questions about his future in the Indian team post the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The India captain, who is set to return to international cricket after the Melbourne Test, expressed irritation over being asked to address source-based media reports.
Media reports had recently suggested that Rohit would be asked to submit a transition plan after the Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March 2025. When questioned about this, Rohit firmly stated that his focus remains on the upcoming ODIs and the Champions Trophy.

"How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans when there are three ODIs and a Champions Trophy? The reports (on my future) have been going on for a number of years, and I am not here to clarify those reports," Rohit said.
"For me, the three games (against England) and the Champions Trophy are very important. My focus is on these games, and I will see what happens thereafter," he added.

Rohit also faced a jibe-like question about his recent lean patch in Test cricket, where he managed just 31 runs in three Tests during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 before benching himself for the final match. When asked if he was confident about performing in ODIs despite his Test struggles, Rohit responded with composure.
"What kind of question is that? (laughs). This is a different format, different time. As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs. I have gone through it a lot. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series. I am looking forward to the challenge. Not looking at what has happened in the past. Clearly, you don't," Rohit said.
Rohit and Virat Kohli will return to the ODI squad for the first time since India’s tour of Sri Lanka last year. India will aim to carry the momentum from their 4-1 T20I series win over England. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who took 14 wickets in the T20Is, has earned a late call-up to the ODI squad and could be in contention for the Champions Trophy if he performs well.
Rohit’s sharp responses and focus on the upcoming challenges highlight his determination to lead India to success in the ODIs and beyond.
