Xtra Time Web Desk: Shubman Gill joined Virat Kohli in an unwanted record list after his dismissal for a duck on day one of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh on Thursday, September 19. Facing just eight balls at Chepauk, Gill struggled throughout his brief stay, eventually falling for a duck. The Bangladesh bowlers consistently bowled on his leg side, forcing an error in the 8th over when Hasan Mahmud induced a flick, and Litton Das took a sharp catch. This marked Gill's third duck at home in 2024, making him the sixth Indian batter to record three or more ducks in a calendar year.

The unwanted record is topped by Mohinder Amarnath, who registered five ducks in 1983. The list also includes names like Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (1969), Dilip Vengsarkar (1979), and Vinod Kambli (1994). Virat Kohli recorded three ducks at home in 2021.

Despite these setbacks, Gill had earlier managed to shine in the home series against England this year, scoring two centuries and two fifties despite being dismissed for a duck twice—once in the Hyderabad Test’s second innings and again in the Rajkot Test’s first innings.
