Xtra Time Web Desk: Bangladesh dominated India in the first hour of play on Day 1 of the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, taking three crucial wickets. Hasan Mahmud led the charge, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in quick succession.

Mahmud first removed India’s captain Rohit Sharma in his third over, with the Indian skipper edging one to second slip. In his next over, Mahmud got Shubman Gill caught down the leg side. His third scalp came in the form of Virat Kohli, who edged a wide delivery to Litton Das in the slips. Mahmud ended his fiery opening spell with figures of 3/14 in seven overs.

This performance comes on the back of his strong showing against Pakistan in Bangladesh’s previous series, where Mahmud claimed eight wickets at an average of 24.12.

The 24-year-old pacer made his T20I debut in 2020 and his Test debut earlier this year against Sri Lanka, where he impressed with a match haul of six wickets, including 4/65 in the second innings. Mahmud’s rise has been swift, with standout performances in the U-19 World Cup 2019, Bangladesh Premier League, and Bangladesh Cricket League. He has taken 18 wickets in T20Is and 30 in ODIs, establishing himself as one of Bangladesh’s brightest talents.
