India is expected to field a youthful team against Sri Lanka, providing emerging players with a valuable opportunity during this transition phase. This strategy aligns with preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, slated for February-March next year. Consequently, the ODI series against Sri Lanka will likely feature a full-strength Indian squad, allowing senior players to gain crucial match practice.

This series also marks a significant milestone as the new India head coach is anticipated to take charge. Gautam Gambhir is currently the leading candidate for this role and is expected to join the team in Sri Lanka, while VVS Laxman will accompany the team to Zimbabwe.
