XtraTime Web Desk: Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian Women's Cricket Team makes India proud. After enduring a drubbing at the hands of Australia in the lead-up to the World Cup, the Indian ladies gave Aussies a taste of their own medicine on Friday. The inaugural match of Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 pipped Australia, who had won four out of the last five editions of this tournament, whereas India had never won an ICC trophy before. Having emphatically won the game, skipper Harmanpreet was full of praise for her side. The 30-year-old batswoman said, “This is a great feeling to win the first game of the tournament. We knew this track is something where we can do well. If we can get to 140, we thought the bowlers can do the job. This track wasn’t easy to bat on – the partnership between Jemi and Deepti was crucial for us.” For India, Poonam Yadav was the pick of the lot as she finished with figures of four for 19 and was on the receiving end of some well-deserved praise from her skipper post-match. “I’m happy we got 130 and that was something with which our bowlers can do well. A bowler like Poonam is someone who leads from the front,” added Harmanpreet. Next up for the Indian ladies, lies a challenge against neighbours Bangladesh on Monday, 24th February, at East Perth.
