India captain Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the first Test match of the Australia series as he is expecting his second child with wife Ritika Sajdeh. He is expected to get back in the team from the second game of the series. In his absence, Vice Captain Jasprit Bumrah is set lead the side in Perth. Sunil Gavaskar stated, "It is important for the captain to play the first Test match. It's different if he is injured, but if he is not available, then the deputy leader will be under a lot of pressure. I have been reading that Rohit Sharma might not play the first two Tests of the Australia series. I feel that, in that case the selection committee should appoint Jasprit Bumrah the captain of the side for the entire Australia tour, and tell Rohit Sharma that you will participate as a player in this series. For the first Test match, Rohit Sharma has to be there."

As a captain, Rohit had a tough outing against Kiwis. He couldn't even pass 100 runs altogether and was one of the underperformers in the series. With form concerns over India's senior players, it will be difficult for India to manage such tight situation as 4 wins are needed to qualify for World Test Championship Final. India is standing on the peak of a hill, they just can't slip anyhow. India can't manage any loss now if they want qualification for the finals.

Will management look Jaspreet Bumrah as the captain for Border Gavaskar Trophy this year or they will come up with something unexpected!
