XtraTime Web Desk: First half strikes from Ferland Mendy (10’) and Karim Benzema (16’) were enough to help secure Real Madrid 2-1 win over Granada in La Liga at Estadio Los Caremenes on Monday night. Zinedine Zidane’s side is just one win away from securing their 34th La Liga title. The win took Real to 83 points from 36 matches with just two rounds remaining. Second placed Barcelona is on 79 points. The Los Blancos can seal their first La Liga title since 2017 if they can win against Villareal at home on Thursday or if Barcelona loses points when they host Osasuna the same night.

Ferland Mendy gave Madrid the lead in the 10th minute with a beautiful angled shot into the top corner. It was the first goal for the French international since joining the Spanish club this season. Karim Benzema doubled the lead for Madrid six minutes later with a powerful right footer. Benzema now has scored 19 goals in the season, three behind highest scorer Lionel Messi. The hosts reduced the margin through Darwin Machs in the 50th minute. The Venzuelan combined well with compatriot Yangel Herrera to find the back of the net.

It was the ninth straight win for Real Madrid since the La Liga restart. Real can still win the title even if they manage two draws in the final two rounds. With a better head to head record with Barcelona, Real Madrid will be declared the champions.
