Xtra Time Web Desk : The Indian Premier League 2022 is set to witness a new format as the Tata sponsored marquee tournament is all set to step into a new era.

The 10 team league this season will see them being divided into two groups of 5 franchises each. Each team in a single group will play twice against the four other franchises present in that very group and will play once against the four teams situated in the other group except for one.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have been placed in Group B alongside Royal Challenges Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and newcomers Gujarat Titans.

On the other hand, the runners up of last season, Kolkata Knight Riders have been placed in Group A alongside 5 time champions Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and debutants Lucknow Super Giants.

Now, with the new format being introduced it will be interesting to see how the mega tournament shapes up this year.
