IPL 2022 likely to be played in India from March 27 : Report
Xtra Time Web Desk : The count down for the Indian Premier League had already begun earlier on Saturday as the league announced the list of 1214 players who did register for the Mega Auction. And now, that excitement has taken a step further as various reports suggests that the tournament is likely to be hosted in India from March 27, although without crowds.
According to reports, the IPL is likely to be held in Maharashtra with Wankhede, CCI, DY Patil and Pune as the probable venues.
Speaking upon the matter to ANI after a meeting with the IPL franchise owners on Saturday, a BCCI official said, "IPL 2022 will be held in India and the tournament will be staged without crowds in attendance. Likely venues for IPL 2022 are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and if needed, we can look at Pune as well."
Earlier it was also reported that South Africa and Sri Lanka were the probable venues, if the COVID situation in India worsens.
And on Saturday, opening up on back up plans to InsideSport, a BCCI official stated, "We are keen on hosting IPL in India. Only if the situation is really bad, we will take it outside India. Our entire efforts are to host the entire league in India itself. Final decision will be taken sometime in February.”
The final decision on all the above matters is likely to be taken on February 20, keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation of Maharashtra.
