IPL 2021 Final: CSK ride on Faf du Plessis’ brilliant 86 to beat KKR by 27 runs for 4th title
Xtra Time Web Desk: MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) comprehensively defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs to win IPL 2021 title at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday. What a turnaround it has been Chennai Super Kings in a span of a year as they won their fourth IPL title after failing to qualify for play offs last season.
The star of the match was undoubtedly Faf du Plessis who played a brilliant 59 ball 86 runs to set Knight Riders a daunting 193 runs target to win. Kolkata Knight Riders’s could only manage 165/9 despite a brilliant 91 runs opening partnership from Shubman Gill (51 off 43) and Venkatesh Iyer (50 from 32).
From 91 for no loss in the 11th over, KKR slumped to 125 for 8 in the 17th over in a dramatic batting collapse to lose the final. Shardul Thakur took three wickets for CSK while Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood got two each.
The highlight of the CSK innings was the three half century partnerships that du Plessis had.
Moeen Ali then made a late flourish with a stroke-filled 37 not out off 20 balls, studded with two fours and three sixes as he stitched a 68-run stand with du Plessis. CSK added 112 runs in the back end of their innings after they were 80 for one at the halfway mark.
For KKR, Sunil Narine took two wickets for 26 runs.
