Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders received a bad news ahead of the IPL 2021 season as key batsman Nitish Rana has been tested positive for COVID-19. The left hander is in quarantine and has isolated himself from the rest of KKR squad. It is learnt the Delhi based cricketer tested positive couple of days back after he returned from a vacation in Goa.

Rana, who featured in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi, is said to have returned a positive test result two days ago after having returned from a holiday in Goa. As per reports in ‘Dainik Bhaskar’, Rana is currently in isolation, away from the rest of the KKR camp, and is being monitored by doctors in a hotel in Mumbai.

Rana is an integral part of the KKR side, and is expected to bat at No 3 for his side this season.

The franchise in a statement said, "Mr. Nitish Rana had checked into the KKR team hotel in Mumbai, on March 21, 2021 with a negative COVID report which was done on March 19, 2021. As per IPL protocol, he was tested on March 22, during his quarantine and the report showed that he was positive. He has had no symptoms and has been completely asymptomatic since. Again as per IPL protocol, he isolated himself and was tested again today. We are glad to report that he has tested negative. We expect him to start training with the team shortly and be fully fit well before the start of the season."
