XtraTime Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has zeroed in on a tentative window for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) this season. The tentative dates are from September 26 to November 08. These tentative dates will be officially announced once the International Cricket Council (ICC) decides to postpone the T20 World Cup in Australia. The ICC is likely to make a decision in its Board meeting which is scheduled to take place on July 20.

It has been reliably learnt that over last few days the board officials have had regular consultation with all the franchises, media rights partner (Star India) and the other stakeholders of the IPL and has identified tentative window from Sep 26th to Nov 8th for IPL 2020.

“We can’t keep our plans on hold. ICC has to decide on the T20 World Cup way forward and we have to decide on our plans. That is the reason tentative window has been zeroed down and we will start preparing as per this window for IPL”, said an insider in the knowhow of board matters.
With the tentative window being finalized there is no clear update on where the event will be staged. Although the board is trying to stage the cash rich league in the country but the rising CIVID-19 cases may prove as a hindrance. The BCCI is also keeping its options open to take the IPL away from India, in UAE or Sri Lanka. As of now UAE is the front runner to stage the cash rich league if it is not held in the country.

According to Brijesh Patel, the Governing Council chairman, “The IPL 2020 can be hosted closed doors, can be limited to fewer venues, can be taken overseas, can be even played without international players.”

This clearly proves the BCCI is desperate to organize IPL 2020 even if they have to make some compromises.
