Xtra Time Web Desk: Heading into the much hyped ICC WTC Final and test series against England, the biggest concern for the Indian team management will be the batsmen not being able to score big hundreds consistently in longer formats. The failure to get big scores in trying conditions in countries like New Zealand and England will be at the back of the minds of Indian batsmen.

Indian captain Virat Kohli has last scored a Test century against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in 2019. Shubman Gill has not recorded his first century so far. Hanuman Vihari’s only test century came in the second test match against West Indies at Sabina Park in 2019. India test vice captain Ajinkya Rahane, between 2018 to present, has scored just three tons. Rishabh Pant though scored a brilliant hundred at Gabba to help India win the test match and series against Australia Only Rohit Sharma has the best stats as far as hundreds are concerned, having scored four in the WTC circle. Rohit’s last test ton was in the home series against England at Ahmedabad.

Talking about the previous tour in 2018 to England, barring Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, none of the Indian batsmen managed to score a hundred. Keeping in mind the challenges ahead on the tour to England, India coaching staff led by Ravi Shastri has devised new training methods to help the batters score big.

According to a report by Times of India, the three methods are —

1- Shortening the length of the pitch from 22 yards to 16 while facing the robo-arm in the nets.

2- Getting pre-shined balls in the nets and “figuring out ways” to make the shiny side heavier.

3- Art of leaving – which is making sure not every ball is played.
