Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes a huge setback for South Africa, fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second and final Test against India starting at the Newlands stadium from January 3,2024.

The 23-year-old player developed pelvic inflammation during the first Test in Centurion, with the injury worsening during the third day's play. Coetzee's impact in the initial Test was limited, managing just one wicket in the first innings and bowling only five overs in the second, as South Africa secured a commanding victory by an innings and 32 runs.

Despite Coetzee's absence, Cricket South Africa has decided not to designate a replacement for the crucial Test in Cape Town. Instead, they have alternative fast bowling options within the squad, including Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder. Moreover, the team has the option of bringing in Keshav Maharaj, who was not part of the playing XI in the first Test.

As South Africa braces for the upcoming match against India, the absence of Coetzee poses a challenge, but the team remains confident with the depth and versatility provided by their alternate bowling choices, aiming to continue their winning momentum from the previous Test.
