Mohammedan Sporting’s Financial Crisis Deepens as President’s Cheques Allegedly Bounce

XtraTime Newsdesk: Nothing seems to be changing at Mohammedan Sporting. Despite several attempts to find a way out of the club’s financial crisis, a solution remains elusive. In a bid to restore financial stability, the club administration underwent a major change, but even that has so far failed to provide any clear direction.

Former president Amiruddin Bobby and long-serving official Kamaruddin stepped down from their respective positions. Humayun Kabir took over as the new president and had assured that he would clear the club’s outstanding dues.

Mohammedan Sporting is reportedly facing debts of around ₹13 crore. The new president had issued three cheques towards clearing the dues, but according to reports, all three cheques were allegedly dishonoured. As a result, the club’s financial troubles continue to persist.

The situation led to a tense episode at the club on Thursday. An official close to president Humayun Kabir had come to watch the match. When the supporters could not find the president, they surrounded the official and demanded answers. Eventually, the official used his own phone to connect the angry supporters directly with Humayun Kabir.

During the phone conversation, the supporters questioned the president about why the cheques had bounced three times, when he would pay the money and why he had promised to clear the club’s outstanding dues.

After a lengthy and heated exchange, Humayun Kabir assured the supporters that he would pay the club by August 10. The supporters subsequently calmed down and made it clear that they would wait until the deadline.

For now, the situation at Mohammedan Sporting is expected to remain calm until August 10. However, if president Humayun Kabir fails to fulfil his promise and clear the dues by the deadline, the club could face another major confrontation, with a fresh storm likely to erupt among the supporters.
