Despite earlier rumors, Brazil will not face the Indian National Team in Kolkata
Speculation over Brazil's visit began last week, when ESPN Brazil claimed that the CBF was in negotiations with organisers about an international friendly during the September-October FIFA international window
XtraTime Newsdesk: Indian football social media has been buzzing after numerous Brazilian media agencies revealed on Wednesday night that the Brazil national football team will play India in an international friendly in Kolkata on October 3, 2026.
The claims soon circulated over social media, with many supporters assuming India were about to host the five-time FIFA World Cup winners for the first time.
But according to a report by Khel Now, those rumblings are incorrect. The Indian team were never in contention to face Brazil. According to the report, those in the know have stated that negotiations between the organisers and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) are at an advanced stage regarding Brazil’s proposed visit to Kolkata during the September-October FIFA international window. However, the opposition has always been expected to be another South American national team, not India.
Speculation over Brazil's visit began last week, when ESPN Brazil claimed that the CBF was in negotiations with organisers about an international friendly during the September-October FIFA international window.
While such negotiations are legitimate(according to several media reports), India has never been mentioned as a potential opponent, despite significant conjecture following the most recent reports.
Brazil has already booked two friendly matches against Australia on September 25 and 29, leaving opportunity for one more before the international calendar closes. The CBF has yet to formally announce its third fixture.
