Speaking about the significance of facing five-time champions Brazil, two-time champions Uruguay and a formidable Panama side, Anwar Ali said
"A historic opportunity awaits us in the next FIFA international window as India will host World Cup-playing nations like Panama, Brazil and Uruguay between September 26 and October 6."
On how these matches will help Indian football, Anwar said, “As a member of the Indian National Team, I feel it's a great opportunity for us to gain valuable exposure against the heavyweights of world football, and, in the process, boost Indian football's popularity among the global audience”
When the discussion was about the AIFF's role of bringing these teams to India, Anwar said,
“I extend my gratitude to the AIFF for organising three consecutive friendlies against such high-profile footballing nations. I believe it will be a huge occasion for the players and fans alike, as the excitement around the matches will be unprecedented. As a player of East Bengal Football Club, I am even more excited to play against former world champions such as Brazil and Uruguay on our home turf - the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. We will give our best in these games to make all Indians proud as they cheer for us in numbers.”
India will face 44th ranking Panama on the 26th of September at Bangalore and then they will face two blockbuster teams back-to-back. The match against five-time World Cup winners Brazil will take place on 3rd October at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata and at the same venue, India will also face two-time World Cup champions Uruguay on the 6th of October. These mouth-watering clashes promise to promote Indian football in a big way.
